Ulinzi Africa Foundation

East Africa’s first non-profit dedicated to ranger welfare, facilitation, and empowerment aims to enhance wildlife conservation and protection. Primarily operating in Kenya’s Tana Delta ecosystem, our projects focus on anti-poaching initiatives, safeguarding critical habitats, and engaging with local communities to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife and environmental preservation. We ensure that rangers throughout Kenya are better equipped and trained in essential life-saving First Aid, as well as field communication and tracking skills. Additionally, we respond to reports of injured or trapped wildlife in both urban and rural areas.

Every year, we provide 10 individuals with the unique opportunity to experience a lifetime situational adventure. Living with rangers, you will work alongside them as they navigate harsh terrains and climates, all in the name of protecting the precious biodiversity of our planet. Our anti-poaching initiatives are supported by all proceeds, which also focus on ranger welfare, empowering these dedicated guardians of wildlife. We promise you a friendship that will endure as you traverse our wilderness alongside the finest wildlife warriors in East Africa.

The communities around the Tana Delta primarily consist of farmers and livestock herders. Some lead a nomadic pastoral lifestyle, while many others reside permanently along the riverline. This situation inherently exposes them to higher risks of Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC). In many areas, community members live below the poverty line, lacking access to proper medical care or transportation. Rangers, who play a crucial role in wildlife conservation and ranger welfare, are often the first responders in times of crisis. At Ulinzi Africa Foundation, we are dedicated to collaborating with the Kenya Wildlife Service to address HWC reports, facilitate hospital transportation, provide First Aid when possible, and respond to calls from farmers needing assistance in driving wildlife away from their crop farms to protect their harvests. We are also exploring longer-term solutions through beehive fencing, which will be implemented once a structural plan is in place to support our anti-poaching initiatives.

As the Executive Director of the Ulinzi Africa Foundation, I am proud to reflect on our journey since launching in 2014 as East Africa’s first non-profit dedicated to enhancing ranger welfare and supporting anti-poaching initiatives. The traction and support we have received in such a short time have truly exceeded my expectations.
